动词和短语动词

一、及物动词与不及物动词

1. 及物动词要求有直接宾语。如:

Wilson has achieved considerable success as an artist.

2. 及物动词可以有双宾语,间接宾语指人,直接宾语指物。

(1)一些动词的间接宾语和直接宾语易位时需加to。如:

The bank finally granted me a £400 loan / a £400 loan to me.

(2)一些动词的间接宾语和直接宾语易位时需加for。如:

He bought me a new coat / a new coat for me.

(3)一些动词的间接宾语和直接宾语很少易位。如:

She didn’t want to cause you any inconvenience.

3. 及物动词可以有复合宾语。如:

He considers himself an expert on the subject.

4. 不及物动词不需要宾语。如:

Anything could happen in the next half hour.

5. 只有及物动词可用于被动语态中。如:

Photography is not allowed in this theatre.

6. 许多动词既可作及物动词也可作不及物动词。如:

I’ve spent two years wandering the world.

She was wandering aimlessly up and down the road.

7. 一些及物动词常用作不及物动词以表示被动的意思,这时主语往往是物。如:

The cake baked too long. (相当于was baked)

Such houses rent easily. (相当于are rented)

二、短语动词

常见的短语动词有以下几种:

1. 动词+介词

“动词+介词”构成的短语相当于一个及物动词,后面跟宾语。

常用的这类短语动词有account for, burst into, come across, deal with, depend / rely on, dream of, feel like, go for, hear from, insist on, laugh at, run into, stand for, set about等。

2. 动词+副词

(1)用作及物动词。常用的这类短语动词有add up, bring up, carry out, figure out, knock down, put out, sort out, take up, take over, turn on, turn over, win back等。

(2)用作不及物动词。常用的这类短语动词有break out, come up, die away, get up, go ahead, move off, run away, sit down, watch out等。

3. 动词+副词+介词

常用的这类短语动词有come up to, date back to, get away with, keep up with, look down on, put up with, run out of等。

4. 动词+名词+介词

常用的这类短语动词有catch sight of, declare war on / upon, keep pace with, make friends with, make use of, pay attention to, set fire to, take care of, take charge of, take interest in等。
